Calmer

September 5th, 2017 at 03:22 pm

So, an acquaintance is struggling with Wisconsin unemployment office as well. And I am feeling much calmer. It isn't just me.

Basically, since I took and quit three months later an every-other-weekend job while working full time before, during, and after at a benefit job that I was laid off from, I was denied unemployment benefits. Mind you, I quit with two week notice at the part-time job with a lot of valid reasons, and long before I was notified of being laid off.

It feels unfair that I took a job to supplement full time job to pay off some bills, and get screwed over for it.

I am still appealing, but I am not a great speaker and not feeling great about my chances. At least I am not alone.

You've expressed it perfectly here. Write down your thoughts and bring them with you to the hearing, if it's in person; if it's over the phone even better.

Be sure to include some details vis a vis the human element...why you had taken the 2nd job in the first place... Remember to point out how long you'd been with the f/t job before being laid off, since this reflects your responsibility.

Sounds like you are getting a crummy deal. Sure hope they listen. As Patient Saver said, be sure to stress about the full time job being the one you were laid off from.

I didn't realize the job you relinquished was PT, the job you lost was FT. Were you eligible for UI benefits resulting from PT work? Had that employer been paying/deducting UI premiums? I wonder if the staff evaluating your initial claim were negatively considering your hours as a student in reviewing and denying your initial application. It is likely in your interest to quote the unemployment numbers in your community if they are higher than the national average. It sounds strange but it's your responsibility to prove your eligibility for benefits. I've always wondered if clerical supervisors got a bonus for denying a quota of claims.
